The Engagement

It was a beautiful sunny Omarama day when Hayden and Samantha set out for Samantha's surprise birthday present. Sitting at breakfast in the Wrinkley Ram resturant, Hayden asked Samantha to write on a piece of paper what her surprise present might be. Known for her keen sense and smarts, Samantha wrote "a plane ride". She wasn't far wrong, in fact the plane was a helicopter, but what she didnt know was that there was an even bigger surprise ahead.

An hour later, Sam and Hayden arrived at a Salmon farm. It became more than obvious at this point that they were not there to fish for Salmon as Samantha realised that the helicopter pad meant they were embarking on a heli ride into the Mount Cook mountains.

Hayden at this point was a pretty nervous man as he waited for the helicopter to arrive back from another trip. Samantha wondering what all the fuss was about in typical style adjusted the  car seat back and had a nap.

It was more than good luck that helped the two have a helicopter and pilot to themselves and as they soared into the snow topped mountain ranges, Hayden began to rehearse some very important lines in his head.

After dodging through the mountainous peaks the pilot set the helicopter down near the top of a mountain which would become the scene of the main event. Samantha walked happily through the snow, surrounded by the stunning beauty of Mount Cook and the surrounding mountain ranges. Hayden now more nervous than ever, stood before Samantha, dropped to one knee and delivered the most important sales pitch of his life.

No one will know what was said or whether it was the altitude, but thankfully for all those involved Samantha said yes.

The Dunedin Engagement Party - February 29, 2008

The engagement party was held at the South Bar in Dunedin and the date had special meaning. The 29th of February was the day that Samantha and Hayden went on their first date.
